Shakespeare’s Birthday, April 23rd!

April 23, 2019 —

It is Shakespeare’s 455th birthday today! Or at least, we imagine he was born on April 23rd, based on his baptismal record of April 26th. Could be a day or two earlier, but since he died on April 23rd, this makes for nice symmetry. Stratford-on-Avon is holding a Shakespeare Parade, while here in the world of children’s theatre in Ottawa, The Company of Adventurers is gearing up for its announcement of its 9th season. Clues have been posted on Facebook. Among our group of actors, the first person to guess the title of the season’s play (based on series of deviously tricky clues distributed among the actors each year) wins a Shakespeare-themed prize. It officially goes public tomorrow, but let’s say that it will have a strikingly different tone from last year’s Antony and Cleopatra (one of my favourites!). As for this year’s production, let’s see…. there is a forest … a jester … some bad love poems…. a wrestling match…. Hmmmmmm…. Hope to see you for the show in Old Ottawa South in the Fall!
